gemmcd
yesterday when I went out to do my daily poo clean and checks etc (I check for eggs just in case!) I saw that they had taken all the straw out of the nesting bit and it was evrywhere but - all on and under roosting bars, outside in run...you get the picture! Put more in as there was none left - went back in the afternoon and exactly the same had happened - no straw in nesting bit what so ever! What are they doing? Should I keep replacing it or not? atsw
My Fifi does that sometimes. Seems to go on for a few days and then stops. Her other 'game' is to extract the newspaper that I line the poo tray with, shred it, and then distribute it all over the coup and run . PurpleTree
Mine have done that with the poo tray newspaper too, especially if part of it has lifted when I've slid the tray back in. It's really difficult to get it of the run. My girls move the shredded paper out of the nesting box a bit too, I thought it was because one of them was sleeping in there, and now they all scratch it around a bit when they are laying. moochoo
My girls do that with straw. It gets tangled around their legs so they kick it out. I now use Hemcore which has shorter strands and there's no more empty nestbox.
Ain't Nobody Here
I'm having to top up the nestbox with shredded paper every couple of days at the moment . We had a broken egg the other day so I daren't let it get empty .

Egluntyne
They are just displaying nesting type behaviour. It does make a mess though. :rol:
