RubyMurray
Hi all I have kept large fowl for a few years now but this summer I got a couple of Pekin chicks, turns out to be a cock and a hen, a nice pair of Columbian Pekin bantams. I have heard that bantams start to lay a bit earlier than large fowl, anyone have any idea when my lil hen (Victoria) will possibly lay her first egg? She's about 13 weeks old (ish) so not expecting it yet, but her hubby (David Peckham) has been crowing since the end of October. Thanks alot, Dyan
Snowy
Hi Dyan, I'm pretty certain that pekins will lay later and less frequently than a large fowl. If they are only 13 weeks now, it's going to be at least the end of January before you see any eggs.
mot336
Hi, I had 16 week old bantams in September and "Ooops, word censored!"ody laying yet. Not expecting anybody to start now until the longer days after the clocks change. Love their names by the way !
Cinnamon
All my Bants, including a Pekin, started laying at around the same time as my big hens. BUT,most Bants are pure breeds, which means they will not lay over the winter months. So if you are waiting for them to come into lay now,you will probably have to wait until the spring. The good news is that bantie eggs are small but wonderfully delicious, with a rich taste & a massive yolk
