Well the question is - Before I rush out and buy some and chuck the straw, is the risk of redmite being found in it the same as for straw?

my understanding is NO, but I would tend to use up what you've got before committing to more dosh (maybe have the aubiose on order of course...).

I couldnt find aubiose locally or on the web, and got easibed instead - seems fine, and nicer than wood chippings/shavings which I used before.

That's my understanding too . I use Easibed too (Hemcore got too expensive) and am very happy with it .

Thanks. Its only for the nestbox, I have woodchip coming out of my ears for the run. Thats working ok though so far.

Hi Plum! I use a tubtrug of Aubiose in the run when the woodchips get a bit damp and it soaks up smells and damp a treat, worth thinking about if you are getting some anyway

Decided to have a go at giving them garlic in food to stop poo smelling (it doesn't anyway at present). Unfortunately opened it in the wind, the run and I got covered. Thats freshened us both up.

I've never seen any mention of problems with Aubiose and red mite.

 

It is super stuff, you will love it and so will the hens. And if you are only using it for the nest box it will last forever.

 

It does sometimes ten to trickle through the hole in the bottom of the nestbox, so I put a strip of newspaper there.
