Pick and Mix

Recommended Posts

I used to work on the pick n mix counter when I was a Saturday girl :D Oh happy days. Also worked on the bread counter, which was absolutely manic.

This is going to have a massive impact on the high street, even though the stores are not what they used to be. I can't see anyone taking it on as a going concern. Some sites will be cherry-picked as they are prime locations but frankly its a mess and it could just be the tip of the iceberg.

I hope I am wrong, and that anyone who works at Woolies or MFI does get to keep therir jobs.

I haven't shopped in wollies for years, but do have a certain nostalgic love of it.... but that doesn't pay the business' bills!

I bought a kitchen from MFI last week (good timing, no?) was vastly reduced and knew we were taking a risk, really. Not surprising that they've failed, either: the prices they charge (before discounts) are pretty steep, given that B&Q/Wickes/Homebase all copy the designs.

Woolies is the only decent shop in the town i grew up in. If it goes the only place to get cds and DVDs is in a small tescos with limited range :shameonu: , there is no where else to buy chad valley toys, sewing supplies, pick n mix, homewares, school clothes and gifts at a reasonable price without driving 15 miles to the nearest 'retail park' for an argos or WHSmiths. That little town will probably just have another pound stretcher/cash converter/estate agent/charity shop or be yet another empty boarded up shop.

Fingers crossed for woolies and their staff

Actually, i wish we had a little Woolies in Wigston. The big one in Leicester isn't missed but you can't buy cd's in Wigston, there is a small selection in Sainsburys or you have to trek to the local Tesco. I forgot about cd's. I'm sure some of the smaller stores will survive but the bigger stores in prime locations are bound to become something else.
