beverley
hi, i'm worried that my two hens are bored, i can't spend much time with them in the week due to work and the dark. so they are mainly in their run, i'm worried this is no life for them. does any one have any ideas. thanks beverley olive ruby
Dodge
Have you put a couple of logs in the run so they can perch of the ground a couple of inches? Or throw a couple of corn on the cobbs in the run one day and then try hanging some brocoli or cabbage for them to peck at the next day. You could also put a cat litter tray in filled with sand + soil so they can have dust baths. I've heard that people hang cd's from the roof of the run for them to peck at. Hen Watch
Mine have: A log A perch (use a thin tree branch, broom handle, pole) poked through run bars A dustbath A pot of grit A metal foodball (like the one in the Omlet shop) to put brocolli stalks/lettuce in. A parrot mirror on a chain (which they ignore). I have seen some good pictures on here from others who have used old shoe racks as perches for the chooks to sit on. chelsea
as above, hanging veggies for them to get exercise/jump up at is a great idea. Perches, logs, branches for them to mooch around on. Ours love the dustbath (shallow tubtrug) in their run and it gets used daily.
alih
the foodballs from omlet are great - I put those in with cauli leaves or similar and they have perches and a pecka bloc (from flyteso fancy) so are happy when I am at work

henny penny
Hi Just wondering how people clean the runs out with all these lovely things in them? I find every thing ends up one end as i cant reach the far end?
Ain't Nobody Here
I don't find poop in the run a problem at all. It seems to magically disappear into the soil & Easibed. I remove the top few inches every 6 weeks or so but in the meantime, there's no smell or mounds of poop lying around . The shoe rack perches do look a bit grubby but I'm not too worried about them.
