Turkey breaks in to Cube run! - Pictures Added!

Recommended Posts

We have a Cube with multiple runs in which our chickens reside. Around this is a larger area which is fenced off with mesh and covered with a mesh roof, where our 3 turkeys live. Access to this is via a gate which we keep locked to prevent our youngest child from liberating the birds. The turkeys like to lie on top of the Cube and the Cube run, and there have been no problems when the chickens have been out in the wider area with the turkeys. The smallest turkey - Piccachu - seems to get on particularly well with them.

We have a door conversion and use velcro garden ties to hold it together. Now that we have the padlocked gate we tend only to put on one tie, but do still wrap it round tightly a few times. Twice recently we caught Piccachu pecking at the velcro tie until she had unwrapped it.

Today I went to give the birds some corn and could not find Piccachu anywhere, which puzzled me as the gate had been padlocked shut. It was then that I noticed that the end of the Cube run was open and there was a rather large black "chicken" in the run!! She has refused to get out and is still there as far as I know!!!

Hello,

I love this thread, the pictures are great. I have a rescue centre locally that has turkeys (girls) and I would love to home some but I find the information on Turkey care is very scarce and I've only had my ex-batts just over a year so I'm not a poultry expert at all. More information on your turkeris would be great or perhaps a thread of their own - please?

Thanks

Helena
