Lost chickens - any ideas?

Recommended Posts

I've come home today to find that I only have one chicken tucked up in bed as opposed to the usual 3.

We moved the chicken house last night while they were asleep from the bottom of the garden to near the house, not that far though. When they woke up they were in their new location then the 1 laying girl laid her egg in the right place so I thought all was well.

They free range all day so it's possible a fox could have got them while we were out but we looked around (with a torch) and saw no signs of feathers or any struggle.

Just wondering if you think it's possible the other 2 have found somewhere else for the night and may come back? Or am I being too hopeful?

Thanks :)

FOUND THEM!!

They were roosting in the bushes. Got one back into her home but the small black one wouldn't come to me and I kept losing her so have had to leave her out for now. Just hope the fox doesn't come for her!

Thanks for your help.

Hopefully she'll either come back tonight or be there waiting in the morning.

One of ours slept out somewhere for 2 nights when we were away and inlaws were locking them up. The same one - a small black one! - was destined to be out all night again tonight. I've tramped round our garden and next doors with two torches but no joy so had resigned myself to her stopping out. Anyway, next door is in his dining room with the light on and just heard some clucking and she was outside his window. Heavens knows where she'd been hiding when I was looking. She's now locked in the coop!

Thanks. I'll have to be extra vigilant when they are going to bed tomorrow and make sure I coax them to the right place if they can't find it again. It astounds me how stupid they are though. One of them is sleeping at the bottom of the ark instead of the top despite me leaving the steps open. She can't figure out where to go even though the structure is the same just in a slightly different place. :wall:

Thanks Anne. They all found their way to the right place tonight thankfully. I felt like a right div running around the garden with a torch last night!

I had TWO torches plus my elderly next door neighbour even went out in his garden with his wind up torch after I had been in his garden -lol Didn't help that he has lots of very large mature shrubs and like yours it was a black chicken. Couldn't have been the white one could it
