Two of my five hens are laying in the afternoon. One regularly at around 1.30, the other at 4.00!

 

Does anyone else have p.m. layers?

One of mine lays in the night or very first thing another lays at 1pm and the last one lays at about 3pm ish. I thought all hens laid in the morning, perhaps we have very chilled out student like hens?

All of mine lay at different times of the day, they seem to have a 26/27 hour laying cycle, so they get later and later each day until they miss a day and then the next day they lay early and so their cycle starts again.

Chilled out and student-like! I love the analogy and know it well. They've clearly been communicating with my laid back 17 year old son!

Yes...a couple of mine do. I often find a warm egg or two in the nesting box later in the day.

I agree with the 26/7 hour laying cycle. One of mine laid at 10.30 yesterday so I'm expecting after lunch today.

Daisy lays at night - the egg's always cold when I collect it - and the others deliver as and when, up to about 13.30. They all try to get the cube nestbox to themselves and there are huge complaints if they actually have to share or use the eglu

Our hens lay at all times of the day but very seldom first thing!

Mine are at all times too. Sometimes in the morning, but not first thing. Usually about 9am. But today Daisy laid one at about 2pm. I think she was struggling a bit as she kept going in and out of her house and nest making and it turned out to be her biggest egg yet at 51g (usually about 45g)

Astrid has just started laying but she's definitely an lazy afternoon girl. The egg I collected at 15:30 this afternoon was still warm (andlaid outside!)

mine lay just when they feel like it whether its AM or PM and at the moment its not at all!
