Green egg layers?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My sister in law is looking for hens that lay green eggs - does anyone know where she can get some and what breeds she should be looking for? The only ones I have been able to find are Araucanas at Wernlas, and I would be very grateful for any further info. Thanks.

Apparently the colour of the eggs are determined by the colour of the ears on the Columbines, ours has white ears therefore lays white eggs. I'm pretty sure I'm right on this one. So check the colour of the ears when picking, you may be lucky. :D Definately recommend Columbines, they are lovely hens, ours is our favourite though I not you shouldn't favour just one hen but....

I have 2 Columbines, one lays green & one lays blue 8)

I also have Cream legbar who lays bright blue eggs.

The Columbines can also be called Jasmines, Heritage Skylines & other names too, depending which stockist you get them from.

I got mine from Hook Farm in Hampshire.

There is also the Cream legbar which is a pure breed hen - mine came from Worldwide Poultry.

There are a couple of photos of my girls in the Gallery.
