Redwing
I love the Archers but I am afraid I don't know the answer to your question sorry
Groovychook
Me too but I'm not familiar with him ... can you remember anything about the character that he played?
Sheilaz
Yes, that was the character's name....back in the 50's & 60's! But, I don't know what happened after he married (Carol someone?) back in the 60's!
Tessa the Duchess
I am an avid 'Archers' fan. I know the name but can't recall anything about him. I suspect he was a character a very, very long time ago. Tessa
Goosey Lucy
On the Archers website there is a timeline section, mentioned is John Tregorran proposing to Carol grey in 1954. This is the link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/archers/timeline/timeline_50s.shtml Hope this helps
hillfamily
Thanks everyone :D I'll relay the info to Mum Hadn't realised he was a character from that far back......Mum forgot to mention that (slightly worried about her memory/thought processes at the mo .....but that's another whole thread)
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Google say: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/archers/backstage/decade_of_love.shtml Perhaps more than anyone, the spirit of the new age was heralded by open-minded John Tregorran, who had originally arrived in Ambridge in a gypsy caravan. Thoughtful and provocative, Tregorran was such a popular and charismatic character that listeners at Archers public events still ask about him - and about Carol Grey , whom he eventually married. and: http://www.squiresfamily.me.uk/archers/borsetshire/families/TregorranGreyF127.html
laurmurf
Another Archers question: Lynda Snell once considered getting hens; I remember her discussing it with Neil (the battery farmer and general bore) but did she go ahead? Or is it just llamas for Lynda? I'm soooooo tempted to write to the script editor Kerry Davies (on another forum) and suggest that Lynda would OF COURSE have an eglu - probably lilac as they don't do one in 'eau de nile' There could be a whole storyline about Neil hating it at once and scoffing but being proven wrong! Phoebe
it was n't that long ago - John and Carol were around when I listened in the 80's. I half remember John leaving Carol in some kind of disreputable way. Did he have an affair with jennifer ? (I always rather liked Neil - until he got battery hens of course )
Olly
Did he have an affair with jennifer ? I'm not sure, but the list of Ambridge men who haven't had something going on with Jennifer is fairly short! I think the Tregorrans ran a market-garden or something? I've got a book about the Archers somewhere ... I don't think Lynda did get hens, but I think she'd have an Eglu if she did! Although since she loves resurrecting Victorian traditions, she might go for the traditional approach?
Phoebe
Olly wrote I'm not sure, but the list of Ambridge men who haven't had something going on with Jennifer is fairly short! Thats very true. I think her 4 children all had different fathers, which is one in the eye for all those who say that "that sort of thing" 1) is a modern symptom of our broken society, and 2) only happens on council estates
Olly
Adam is the product of her fling with an Irish cow-hand, I seem to recall ... Debbie is the daughter of Roger Travers-Macy, a bit of posh with whom she had an affair and then married, and divorced - then he reappeared a few years ago and they picked up where they left off, but I think Kate and Alice are both Brian's daughters. Brian is no better, apart from Ruaridh he's had a few little dalliances ... Funnily enough, the working-class inhabitans of Ambridge, e.g. the Carters, the Grundys and so on are all fairly moral (discounting Emmurr Carter's inability to choose which of the Grundy brothers she wanted!). It's the posh ones like two-timing Shula and Caroline (see Brian, above), before she married, who give Ambridge women a bad name! I have been listening to the Archers since I was a little girl ... Phoebe
I did from about 15 to 30 and then stopped in frustration at Shula's inability to choose and keep a nice bloke (although losing Mark was not her fault I accept) Was n't there some suspicion that Kate was John Tregorran's though - or am I spreading rumours unnecessarily? Think of it as agricultural education; its ok to listen to it then.
Groovychook
I absolutely love the Archers! I sometimes hear the episodes 3 times including the omnibus! I used to listen to it with Mum when I was little and then got back into it when I was in my twenties... I am currently; Very worried about Jill's bees, Pleased that Alice & Chris's romance is one in the eye for Jennifer and Wishing that Shula would pull herself together- she's getting on my nerves!! !!!! laurmurf
Shula is driving me crazy as well. Perhaps I don't understand where she's coming from because I'm not a church goer or even a christian, but Alan (TVOA) is - so surely if he's okay about having Ganesh in his study (and Usha in his life) than Shula should SHUT UP! I can't wait for her to have a heart to heart with Caroline - I'd love to hear her take on it after her love affair with a form vicar! As for Brian, do you remember when he tried chatting up Betty Tucker?
Groovychook
As for Brian, do you remember when he tried chatting up Betty Tucker? Nooo!!! I don't remember that!!! I'm presuming that Betty told him where to go?! Do you think that Annabel is being primed as a future conquest for Brian? It's been a couple of years since the last fling... he must be getting itchy feet! As for Shula- grrr(!) I'm a non believer, so I don't really get it either. It annoys me that she's so pious and narrow minded. I shouted at the radio when she remarked upon the Ganesh in the study! Grrrr... got that off my chest now... ! chickencam
As a Christian she should turn the other cheek. I have never thought much of Shula she had double standards and moans all the time.
