Ditching Sky!!!!

Recommended Posts

Sarah, does this help here

We've only got freeview but are wondering about freesat although I'm not sure there'd be anything more on that we want to watch. Tend to get dvd's now.

That is VERY helpful thanks 8)

Just phoned Sky & have got rid of 3 packages we never use (Kids, Style & Culture & News), & am considering ditching either Movies or Multiroom too, while I sort out the best option for us in the future.

It does look like Freesat though :D

You might also like to bear in mind that HD is available with Freesat but not Freeview...

Our Humax 9300T freeview box came with the HDMI leads so you can receive it if you have got a tv to view it through (which we havent )

We have an HD ready TV so we connected via the HDMI leads.

We wanted to get away from satellite as our signal drops out every time there is a drop of rain - so we chose Freeview over Freesat. We don't have cable out here in the rural wilds of Warwickshire

At the moment we have the Humax set up with HDMI leads and the Sky+ box also attached with its scart lead so that we can watch the remaining programmes off the planner.

You can pay a small monthly fee to have Setanta added and as someone has already mentioned, you can also pay a small fee to LoveFilm.com to rent DVDs for films.

Sorry if it's still confusing - I was confused by it all and read so many reviews.........then I went back to it all and started researching again  Eventually, I worked out exactly what I wanted the set up to do and then looked at PVRs which would do that.

We had to get an Aerials man out before Christmas to sort out all the TV wiring which had been added to this house by the previous owners when it was built. Everything was wired wrongly apparently and they'd used the wrong ends to cables........The man was really helpful and told us the levels of Freeview were good enough to use a PVR through the aerial. It cost us £60 for him to sort everything out and was well worth it to have a chat about our eventual set-up. They have a little box that they plug into the aerial sockets to check what is coming through.

Hi Everyone

From time to time there are offers at either Aldi or Lidl for european satellite units which means that you can set up your own free unit and watch a lot of the european channels and UK networks you might not get in your region.

Or look in your local yellow pages to see what is available where it is not going to cost you a fee to watch a program.

Best regards for 2009.
