mccroft
sorry if this is the wrong section. I've been reading some posts about what tp put inside the run. I've been using wood chip. As my girls were'nt in the run much it lasted for ages almost 5 months bvefore it needed topping up. With the flock likely to be in the run a lot more I was checking out what's best to use. My local feed merchant sells easybed and Auboise with the later being £8.96. Not sure of the size but on the phone she said it was a big bale? I need to cover an are of 16x5ft so not sure how many bales I would need or how thick it needs to be. Any advice from you huge walk in run owners would be helpful

Redwing
Its really compressed so covers a surprising area, I wouldnt like to say for sure but perhaps start with two bales and have a third in reserve?? If it was my run (I dont have a walk in run so can't speak from experience) I would make it at least a few inches deep
The Dogmother
The bales contain 20kg and it is compressed, so goes a long way. You really don't need it very thick either; it's best to start with less and add more as you need it then clear it all out when it gets really mucky. Be sure to sprinkle garden lime and Stalosan on the soil before putting the Aubiose down though - that'll keep any nasty bugs at bay. BarbaraJ
i would have thought buy 2 bags, use 11/2 then add to it if needed. it goes a long way!
Egluntyne
I would agree with redwing about the 2 with a 3rd in reserve. I have an 18m x9m run and that is about right for that size.
