Mrs AVP
Hi I wonder of anyone can help me. Do Eglu trays get stuck due to the cold weather as ours has and we cannot clean the tray out. Any suggestions? Many Thanks
Karen & co.
I wonder if it has a little water underneath that has frozen it down could you try wriggling it back and too rather than just pulling it out, and see if it works free I hope you manage to sort it out. MaggieMcHen
Thats exasctily what happened with my cube one - I had given it a good jet wash and then popped the trays back - wet underneath - froze!! That's not to mention my frozen nipples and not just at night!! Anyone found an answer to THAT problem when it hasn't got above freezing all day. I have put the super glug down low so that they can use it like an ordinary glug that way they keep the ice at bay during the day at least, then I take it in at night. ubereglu
I've had the tray stuck the past couple of days. I just remove the roosting bars out through the eggport door and pull up the paper on the tray with all the poo on. Thing is as it's so cold the paper freezes too-not much fun. mostin
My tray was stuck today, I lifted it at the door end and it released the tray, then it slid out ok.
Mrs AVP
Thanks I have tried wiggling it and pulling it, managed to cut my finger on the black clip at back which was sharp!! I will try going in through the door and clean it that way for now.
Jules.
My poo trays were stuck today, too. The poo & newspaper was frozen too I gave the trays a big wriggle & eventually got them free, & they were frozen all the way underneath, not just a the metal clip end. They'll be frozen next time I clean the girls out too, as I gave them a good scrub & had to put them back slightly damp. Some how I don't remember this happening when I had my eglu
Mrs AVP
All sorted thanks, it must have been the cold weather!!!
Gallina
The eggport door on one of my cubes has been frozen shut all this week. In the end I pulled it off using great force, and it didn't seem to do any harm. This is the worse weather I have known since keeping hens. I have been telling myself that frozen poo is not doing any harm, but the sun is coming out so I will have to go out soon and deal with my trays. It's not a lot of fun keeping hens in the depth of winter. But spring is coming: it is already getting quite a bit lighter in the afternoons. ubereglu
Well, by tray comes out now, it's a bit warmer here today and even the pile of ice which was on the patio has melted now. Will clean them out later and give the eglu a good scrub and then dry it properly with one of the old towels in the car.
