Alison Weir (who wrote "Innocent Traitor") is a serious historian with several historical non-fiction books behind her, much in the same vein as David Starkey, and I've read several of them since I have a fascination with the Tudor period. I think that Innocent Traitor was her first foray into historical fiction, and I loved it when I first read it :D . It's good to know that much of it is based on serious historical fact, she just weaves known events into a cohesive story, and allows her imagination to fill in some of the blanks to make it a satisfying read :D . I've recently finished reading another historical fiction book by her about the childhood of Queen Elizabeth and all the dangers and political intrigue that she was subjected to. It's an excellent read , although I have to admit that I can't remember the title right now :D

If you're really into the history of the time her non-fiction books are great too, she wrote one about the children of Henry VIII, plus Lady Jane Grey.....I think it was called "Children of England".

I also love Philippa Gregory's books, and also Christie Dickason :D

Changing the subject several of you, (Cinnamon :? ) mentioned the Twilight books. Are they really worth reading from the adult perspective? Immy recently devoured them and for a child who really didn't ever really get into reading much to read books of their size in 2 or 3 days had be gobsmacked. Of course she did read them over the recent summer holidays when she had more time, but still  . I've been eyeing them up thinking that I should have a look and see what all the fuss is about, but quite honestly haven't got round to it :? . Not enough hours in the day for too much reading unfortunately at the moment

Well, I enjoyed them Cate.

I liked the first one the best I think, & they are well worth a read. Its always nice for mums & daughters to have a book to chat about too, isn't it?

I am also reading the Twilight books, i've just finished the 3rd and impatiently waiting for the 4th that i have reserved from the library. I have really enjoyed them and i think the 1st is my favourite too.

However my mum has expressed no interest in reading them and was glad that i offered to take my little sisters to the cinema to watch it even though i had already seen it(but how could i have not offered when Robert Pattinson was playing Edward Cullen! )

I would definately start reading them and if you don't like them find another book to read.

If you enjoyed that book, I would really recommend Phillipa Gregorys Tudor series, which are fantastic.

'The other Boleyn girl' is an all time favourite of mine,

Ditto! :) Brilliant Books

Also loved Alison Weirs Innocent Traitor. :)

Has anyone else read Pillars of the Earth and World without End by Ken Follett. I absolutely loved Pillars of the Earth and am reading the sequel World without End at the moment - Fantastic novels. :)

It sounds like Twilight needs to be one of my next reads! :)
