Tessa the Duchess
I bought DH a weather station for his birthday yesterday. I think I bought the same one as Lesley it came from Maplin and is called Atech. We have installed and reinstalled the batteries, following the instructions to the letter but we cannot get the outside temp to register, everything else seems to register ok. Are we missing something or maybe we have a dud one? Anyone? Tessa
jomaxsmith
Has it got different channels? My rather old one has three different channels to receive the outdoor sensor information and you need it to be on the right one, Jo
Tessa the Duchess
Gosh I don't know, I have read through the instructions and can't see any info about channel changing. Tessa
The Dogmother
I'd have asked about the channels too TBH. I have the Science Museum one and that can have multiple sensors and channels. My sensor also has a 'TX' button on the back to transmit the signal to the base station when you first set it up - does yours have one of these? The only other thing I can suggest is to google the makers and get in touch with them for guidance, although your contract is with the retailer, so if it doesn't work, take it back to them. I hope that it works for you.
Tessa the Duchess
Yours sounds very posh Clare, this one is bog standard. I will wait until Lesley pops on and see if she has any words of wisdom, otherwise it's back to Maplin with it. I hate when presents don't work properly Tessa
Helly Welly
My weather station has never worked proerly and i've given up on the darn thing. Try making sure that the outside sensor is in line with the receiver, it made a difference with mine.
The Dogmother
I recently moved my sensor; it used to be with the wire hanging out of the bedroom window with the station in the same room. I realised that the front of the house is the warmest bit though, so moved the sensor to the bathroom window - seems to work fine but it's roughly 1.5deg colder
JM
I got one for my OH's Christmas pressy. When he was setting up his, I think it said to remove the power from the station (ie remove the batteries) when you added a new sensor. So you could try this: 1 - remove the batteries from the weather station itself (or unplug from the wall if it is plugged in) 2 - remove the batteries from the sensor, 3 - replace the batteries from the sensor (just to start from scratch), 4 - replace the station batteries and see if that resolves matters It may just need a bit of a reboot for the station to recognise new things. Lesley
I'm here!!!! I had problems with mine the other day, and took it all apart. After replacing the batteries a couple of times and it still wouldn't play nicely, I took the batteries out of the sta tion and the transmitter and left them out for an hour - then put them back in (in the right order) and then I found a tiny yellow reset button on the back of the transmitter - pressed that with the point of a skewer, and left the two pieces alone for half an hour It settled down and found the outside temperature. I did also move the transmitter - it was too protected, tucked up under the eaves so it is now on the door frame in the porch.
Tessa the Duchess
Thanks Lesley, I have tried taking the batteries out, replacing them and pressing the reset button but no joy Yesterday at around 4.00pm I phoned Maplin and they said they would send another one, which arrived at 10.00am this morning (how do they do it so fast?) I haven't had a chance to set the replacement one up yet, although rather worryingly on the 'phone the lady said "if the new once doesn't work either, you will have to get back to us" I am wondering if they have a dud lot? Time will tell Tessa
