Help! My chooks are laying like there is o tomorrow! I had 9 yesterday from 7 hens, two were softies in the poo tray, weighing 8 grams and 12 grams, but I also had an 88 gram one, all in one day!! How can I get 9 from 7 chickens?

 

I have 30 eggs stacked up, and need an extra skelter, though I keep managing to dent them on the skelter when I roll then down, or they fall through the centre!

 

I am giving them away by the boxful as DH is in Brussels, DS is in India and DD has now got her own flat - I shall have to visit with some eggs, thank goodness she is only in London!

I'm I had about 4 eggs over a fortnight Ruby is just coming out of a moult, Pearl has just started and Opal obviously just didn't feel like it I've had an egg every day for the last 3 days

Be grateful while it lasts. My 4 hens gave an egg a day for a year and I was giving them away and even selling them as I was over run.

 

Now I get 1 or 2 a day if I'm lucky and sometimes........have to buy eggs....... and they are just not the same at all......

It's feast or famine here too. Now that my coumbines are having a break I get enough from the others to see me right. Some days I get 1 other days 10????

Jealous here too. Our 3 girls have barely laid a dozen between them over 3 or 4 months! They are approaching 2 years old and I hope they aren't clapped out already. They all seem perky in themselves - combs pink and upright, no signs of parasites - but went into a bit of a moult Sept/Oct time and haven't really laid properly since, except for a quick burst before Christmas.

 

Any hints anyone? Before this they were laying almost an egg a day each and we'd begun selling excess at the door.

im jealous too, have 8 girlies, only one of them is lay (although they are all young) but on the up side, I have had 1 egg ever day since monday. cant wait until I have "overrun" as I have so many order for eggs from people at work.

 

We have a "farm club" where people trade produce, people with allotments will trade veggies for both poo and eggs.

you can (apparantly) freeze them - beaten up, say 3 or 4 together, to use in baking during a famine. But I can't say I have tried it

I sell any extras I have at work. I always have someone interested in buying them (Especially as I never shut up about my girls! ) The money they make I put in a pot for to spend on their feed and bits when the time comes. Or you could donate it to BHWT?
