tom123 Posted January 17, 2009 Share Posted January 17, 2009 (edited) At first when I only had 2 hens my run was fine now I have 6 I had to build a new run however where the run was going to go there was a tree so a walk in run was out of the question. We then built an area for the chickens about 3m x 4m and they are in here everyday and there is plenty of room. The fence is just half round posts with 4ft of chicken wire round it nailed in. It has bark all over the floor and a few plants. The posts were £1 each and the wire was about £10 so were the 2 bags of wood chip. If you did fence off some garden it would soon be mud so I do advise putting bark down immediately after the grass is gone so it doesn't turn into mud. Here is a picture of my run... Its not as great as a walk in run but I like and the chickens do so its staying! clueless chick Posted January 17, 2009 Share Posted January 17, 2009 I have sectioned off part of the garden, bought the omlet fencing. It has proved very versatile. Its been used for protecting the veg garden when OH has been busy, also for keeping the cat away from their free range area ( she still is not keen on them, but at ten years old I dont think she will change). It is very light and I find it very easy to move around to just where I need it. We have just got a walk in run and I have cut the fencing into 2 sections, keeping the chooks away from a laurel bush, which I believe is poisonous. So I can recommend the fencing. Plum Posted January 18, 2009 Share Posted January 18, 2009 I've got the omlet netting and its light and easy to move, however they did jump over it once when my OH got them overexcited by the sight of grapes and a section was sagging. You can either set it up as a ring fence, or a U shape against a wall etc, or just a straight line - and easy to re-position to give a patch of garden a rest.
