TAJ Posted January 18, 2009 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Dear All - I need a bit of Cube advice. You have probably seen me talking about considering a cube and expanding the flock in other threads. Whilst it could go where the Eglu currently is I am looking at a new spot in the garden. Currently the Omlet is outside the patio windows but its highest pint is just under 80cm, as the cube is 120cm it would block the view from the window (OH says we would be living in a cage!). The other spot I have in mind will easily fit the cube, but it is the moving for cleaning I want advice on. It would be enclosed by stone wall and 6ft fences on three sides, open to the garden along the 4th side. I am looking at the 3m one and the length of the space it would go into is probably 4.5m - my question is would I have enough room to move it out onto the garden easily for cleaning? My percieved issue is that the wheels go forward and backwards and I would need to turn it 90 degrees in a restricted space. I hope that makes sense? Currently to do a good clean of the eglu I just move it onto the grass so I can pressure wash the patio area it stands on - I would want to do the same with the cube. Plum Posted January 18, 2009 Share Posted January 18, 2009 If you have 4.5 m space you wouldn't need to move it to clean it. The back only needs 27" for taking out the poo trays and you dont need any space for lifting the back off. To clean the run I just take off the whole end piece of the run or drop down the top half. Mind you I dont use a pressure washer just a bucket of soapy water and dry it with one of those really absorbant cloths. I would if I had one. If you are putting hemcore, woodchip or whatever in the run, I think it would be really hard to move it anyway, let alone round a corner. Sorry I've made it sound hard, but I find it easy cleaning it in situ. Edited to say sorry misread your question, its the base you want to pressure wash so I guess you won't have anything down or will remove it first, so please ignore my answer. The wheels aren't brilliant on rough ground, nor at turning.. it has to be gradual corners if you get my drift. It is so much easier to clean out the run by moving the whole thing. I was imgaining it would be like doing a 3-point turn (probably nearer 10 point though!) and having measured the gap it is 5m long and it will be standing on even slabs - so I think as a 2-person job it foes sound doable don't you think?
