Cube construction - problem?

Recommended Posts

I LOVE my new orange (pukey orange as a friend calls it :o ) cube - however, I have a 1-2 " gap between the backplate and the roof and I'm sure it's not right. Everything else works - the roof slides, it looks "square", etc, etc ..... calling on all you experienced cube owners, any ideas where I might have gone wrong please :?: - I don't particularly want to dismantle the entire thing and start from scratch :? unless I know what to change next time ....

Thanks in anticipation ..... :)

hi baggins, i had the same problem when i put mine together but as well as a large gap at the top there was also gaps down one side of the back plate.

anyway i tried a couple of times to re-adjust it but nothing worked, i phoned omlet and spoke to a very helpful lady called hayley who got me to take photos of the gaps and e.mail them direct to her, she phoned the next day to say several new parts were on there way and now everything fits snuggly with no gaps or leaks (just like there advertising photos on the website).

so if your not happy just do as i did, i hope this helps.

hi maggiemchen, i am still struggling to post pictures on here but i have a whole day of work tomorrow so i will try and post them until i get it right.

as well as a large gap between the back and roof and the gaps down the side of the back piece the drain channels on the roof were uneven, one side was alot wider than the other, after sending the photos to omlet the sent me all of the plastic parts (roof, base, sides, back and front) as they were unsure what caused the gaps, not once did they try to tell me they were supposed to be like this, infact they could'nt have been more helpfull, if you look at the cube pictures omlet use on this website everything sits flush and symetrical and there are no large gaps or spaces where any of the sides and roof meet, this is exactly how my cube is now, and it is very snug and water tight.

check this post tomorrow to see if the photos are here, i will try.

just noticed the photo madbird has put up, i have no gaps like this. the roof and sides fit very well and tight into the groove on the back panel, i did have this problem until the replacement parts were sent by omlet, and they never told me that them gaps should be there, infact they told me to add extra straw and bedding for the chickens until they could correct it.

how come you have a 2 colour cube madbird?

Hi.. all cubes are like that? main colour for the roof and sides (in my case Orange) and grey front and back panels...

I'm worried now that the gaps I thought were ok are now not? :(

Jade&mike would love to see photos of your cube for a comparison??

Several of us would really like to see a 'snug and tight' Cube to see if we really do have more of a problem than we thought. :vom::vom: and should we have ANOTHER word with Omlet.

Have you got a flickr or facebook account? You can put photos there and give us a link if you are struggling with putting them on the post.

I have tightened all the brackets, bolts and screws so much that it wouldn't budge in a Force 12 .... but I still have HUGE gaps at the back. Thankfully, it is inside a walk-in run so the girls have enough protection for now ..... but it's definitely not right. I will ring Omlet on Monday .....

well at last I think I now know why my purple cube leaks thanks to this thread. I have just compared my lilac cube (that doesn;t leak) with my purple cube (that does) and found that there is a big gap between the back panel and roof of the purple cube, but not on the lilac one. We have had a fiddle with both of them and there is no more manoeuvre on the brackets. I can put my finger under the back panel of the purple one and lift it about 3/4 inch on the left side until it is snug against the roof (then leaving a gap at the bottom). We think, but do not quote me until we have had more than a rushed 5 mins before work, that it could be 1 off 2 things. The back panel is slightly smaller on the left side (unlikely) or the bit where the inside bolt slides into the side panel is further down on the left panel - more likely. Whatever it is I need to get it sorted. At least by having 2 cubes and one having always leaked and the other not I have a direct comparison and I certainly see it as a problem rather than a ventilation gap (sorry Clare :anxious::wink: ). I think we shall be taking photos and contacting Omlet once we have been able to have a very good look over the weekend.

PS - Baggins - any idea how he 'fixed' the cube?

I am new to this so pls exuse any mistakes.I finally got my cube at the end of jan after years of other types of houses as I was fed up with covering them up and ending up with chicken poo hands when i wanted to get in .My cube unfortunately had a gap at the back letting water in but Omlet have been brillant and sent a man down to fix it even though i am outside their area.So far i must say wonderful customer service.I am now hoping my leak has gone.

Hi Claire,

Yes, and I must confess that I felt a bit dim although if it doesn't say it in the instructions, the technophobe in me won't do it :wall: .

If you take the back panel off, there are brackets attaching the base to the 2 sides. The screws / bolts on the sides should be right at the bottom of the "sliding hole" and this should solve the problem.

Let me know how you get on.

thanks for that - informed OH of the solution and he has told me that it is already set up like that. Back to the drawing board then - and photos off to Omlet
