I had my first egg this morning and haven't got a clue which chuck it came from. I don't suppose it matters really, it would just be nice to know! I had no trouble knowing which of mine laid the first one due to watching her do it, well almost, However, she was also the one that was showing the most signs of coming into lay, very friendly, lots and LOTS of crouching etc. Any of your girls more approachable than the others? helenmb Posted January 19, 2009 Share Posted January 19, 2009 Congratulations Its very difficult to tell unless of course their breed lays different coloured eggs. Normal colour egg layers tend to lay varying shades from day to day as well. Like the other posts the usual signs (unless you catch her on the nest of course) are red comb and wattle (and also C & Ws that have grown too), crouching (although some of my girls don't crouch for me). Lots more investigation in the nest area than the others. More appetite (as egg laying takes lots of energy). Plus she may have changed her voice as some become more vocal too.
