I was just speaking to someone who has a Roomba AND a Scooba! Just looked them up on the web site.

 

A bit pricey I thought.

I don't have either, I have a "Julie". She costs £30 a week so if I got rid of her I could have both - but then I'd need another to clean the bathrooms and the kitchen (mind you she's scared to touch the Aga!)......

 

Still if I had a Roomba she could do more polishing and washing down woodwork.........

She seems to be self charging. The girl is actually a marvel - she goes at cleaning like she's doing a workout - works up a good sweat and saves on gym fees!

 

She doesnt fall down stairs either - so she is kinda like a Roomba!

I too am my own Julie. It's the most thankless job in the world. People (and by that I mean OH) only notice when things haven't been done.

 

Otherwise beautifully clean floors go unnoticed and muddy feet walk through the house to get to the post as soon as possible on return from work.

 

And does anyone say, "Golly, the house smells lovely, what is that?"

Or, do they say "What's that smell? It doesn't smell like my house"

 

And does anyone say, "Wow, what a delicious home-cooked meal! That must have taken ages. And I didn't notice a single pot, pan or spoon in the kitchen left over from the preparation"

Or do they say nothing and leave their tray on the floor, than complain about the dog sniffing round it?

 

And does anyone say, "The children look well turned-out today. How many times did you have to say, 'Have you brushed your teeth?' to get that done?"

Unfortunatley I think you may be too far from our Julie - she comes from the other direction to you. I think if she ever stops I will definately be looking at a Roomba and a Scooba and to take someone on for less hours. She really is amazing for what she does but I could cut down to once a week if I had the robots in......I couldn't do that to her though as she needs the money.

All tiled floors, 3 (big) dogs with BIIIIG paws and it's been raining most of today!

 

Read all the reviews (are there any Omleteer reviews? I'd trust them more than the commercial ones ) and the only negative seems to be noise.

 

Gotta be better than listening to OH moaning about the mud being dragged in by said dogs. (His footprints don't count when it's logs for the woodburner )

 

Couldn't have a Julie, she'd pass out before she got through the front door and I'd be sooooo embarrassed Better a Scooba who will not voice an opinion and just get on with the job.

Your house sounds like mine Jackie only I have 6 small dogs but they still seem to bring in an awful lot of dirt. Can you get the scooba over here now? I know you couldn't when I bought Ruby. I could be really tempted but I don't know if I could use my special slate floor cleaner in it. It keeps the floor looking nice and dark so I wouldn't want to stop using it.

Edit to say....6 small dogs can make as much mess as 3 big ones....and they move twice as quick

 

2nd edit to say....you put floor cleaner in it....why not slate cleaner I would

I thought the reviews were good!

 

Negative comments: Noise...how noisy is a vacuum YOU are having to push around

 

Damp floors: Yeah that happens with mops too...unless you go over it again with a dry cloth!

 

Didn't clean properly: Not many people use ONLY water 'cos they haven't got any cleaning fluid. (I'd probably have used whatever was under my sink at the time!)

 

Pricey: How much are you going to pay for a decent vac?, which you have to push around and when you've done that ..go mopping (You could have been spending time on the forum )

 

As soon as I have enough....this is definately on my shopping list

It was more the "doesn't go into corners" and the fact it isn't as good as the Roomba that put me off. There's not much point having it mop the floor if you have to go around the edges yourself. My lot get the dirt everywhere inclusing the corners!

I'd rather do a few corners than the whole lot.....we have (so far!) 125sq. metres of tiled floors on the ground floor We have hardly started on the wooden floors upstairs yet

 

It probably is just different to the Roomba in that you have to remember it vacuums before it even starts to mop! That'll do for me

We have a lot of oak flooring and I'd be unsure about using it on that. It would be mainly for use in the family room which is slate and the dog room and kitchen which are tiled. I don't think it could do bathrooms because it wouldn't be able to clean around the toilet. I am tempted. I tell you what you buy it and let me know how you get on

It says in the reviews that it's great on wooden floors. I can believe that knowing how much water I chucked on some beautiful floors when I was a care assistant on nights.....it couldn't do worse

 

As for toilets.....der, der , de, der dah! we've just had suspended loos fitted so you can get all the way under them Not that the OH would EVER admit to shaking a little too vigorously

 

As for me buying it.....no probs.....I have been a notorious spendthrift all my life, and i can't see that changing now......just need the pension to match my desires.......or a lottery win
