mivona
I went out today, and found a solid mass in the Eglu. It is pale brown, and certainly doesn't look like poo, but more like a lump of fat. If it would help, I can take a picture of it and try to upload it. I also think I will cut it open to see if that helps to understand the structure of it. I have four hens, three of which lay brown eggs, and one that lays white eggs. I am not sure which two of the three hens are currently laying, but believe it is the two battery hens we got a couple of months ago. My other longer-term hen has moulted, and I don't think she has yet to come back into lay. If so, she hasn't laid an egg for at least 3 months. I am worried about her - Maisy - because she seems more withdrawn than before we got the two ex-bats. She has always been pretty solitary, but I can't quite put my finger on the difference. Can anyone help, please?
Egluntyne
It is called a 'lash' and is made up of gubbins from the egg laying tract. Generally nothing to worry about. She might perk up now that she has got rid of it. Have a look **here** and **here**
mivona
Whew! Thanks for your prompt reply. Is it likely to have come from Maisy, as a precursor to her beginning to lay again? Or from one of the ex-bats? I know it wasn't the white-egg hen, as she laid a softy today.
sandyhas3chucks
I saw a while back that I think it was Egluntine wanted to see inside one. Got a hopper upper who probably enjoyed the meal as it was gone when I remembered & took camera out ! The one it was from hasn't laid in a while or since the lash a 5 days ago, but another one had a week off then the lash another week or 10 days off & is laying again. hope this helps too
