4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Ruby has not laid for 10 days but is her usual perky self. I have just come home to find feather everywhere which are clearly hers. I picked her up and it's her tummy that is bare. She is shedding as I watch so it's definitely not plucking.

 

Is this the right time of year for moulting and is there anything I can do to help her apart from poultry spice and cat food?

She's not showing signs of being broody is she? I only ask as Molly had a bare tum when she went broody .

I wouldnt rule out moulting or broodiness to be honest, although my moulters all lost their feathers before Christmas and are now back to normal (no eggs though ).

 

If she is broody she wont want to come off the nest, will go as flat as a pancake and will grunt/make funny noises & puff up like a fluffball when you approach her.

 

If you think she is moulting, a little bit of rinsed tuna, chick crumb (if you have it to hand) and the odd sprinkle of meal worms every now and again should pep her up.

My bluebell has just started to moult this weekend - there are grey fluffy feathers everywhere I could probably stuff a cushion with them all! Some girls just don't know how to do things at the proper time

Could be moulting.

I don't feed meat, but have fed boiled eggs as protein. They will survive fine without any special treatment to be honest as it is perfectly natural. If healthy a moult will be fairly quick.

Thanks guys - no she definitely isn't broody so it must be a moult. I shall keep an eye as the feathers are falling thick and fast but it sounds as though that's perfecty normal!
