lay
Whenever our Chickens are free ranging or if we go up to talk to them whilst they are in the run, Pong's face will turn bright red. Is this a defensive thing, or is she scared of us?
Mel (& Paul)
never heard that before - does it go red like she was blushing? It might be egg-citement of seeing you and hoping for some treats
Guest
My Belles face used to blush red, then go paler again when she was younger. I THINK it was before she started laying, and I took it as a sign that she was maturing. Is Pongo laying yet?

I'd agree with that Shona, Phil used to do exactly the same looking as if she was blushing on and off until she finally laid that first egg. Then her face stayed a red colour. Budgies
We've noticed this. Both our girls go slightly darker red when they are about to lay an egg, or when they are excited because we come bearing treats! I gave them poultry spice, wondering if they were a bit deficient in something but they're absolutely fine and lay almost every day! I think I assumed that everyone's chickens do the same! lay
Pongo is about 15 weeks so quite away off laying. It is a relief to know that other peoples Chickens do it as well.
