Moulting?

Recommended Posts

Could one of my chooks be moulting? Just been out to see them and give them something to eat and there are lots of feathers about the run. I know it is Peaches as she isn't so feathery as the others. I don't think it is bullying or anything, I keep my eye on them and there has never been any disharmony between them. Could one be moulting in this chilly weather? There were no feathers in the run yesterday.

Our Matilda is moulting at the moment, when she first started there were feathers everywhere, but that soon stops and then you will see the new growth come through. Looks a bit like a porcupine that's had a trim! What silly chickens they are moulting in this weather! Keep on eye on it but it may well be a moult. We've been shutting the eglu door the last few nights as she not got many feathers, she's only got a couple of tail feathers, looks really bedraggled and scruffy

Oh glad to hear she isn't the only chook being a bit silly and losing feathers in this chilly weather. She does seem to be a bit sensible and follow the other girls about and sit right by them when they perch to keep warm. I shall give her some tuna and add a little poultry spice to give her a boost.
