shelley8179
Harry as become very withdrawn and is staying inside the eglu while the girls free range all day. He is very quiet and isnt his normal self, it could be the snow and cold he doesnt like but he is doing white/yellow watery poo. Any ideas? Egluntyne
Has he been wormed recently? Is he eating and drinking?
shelley8179
He is eating and drinking, he has not been wormed yet cos we got told to wait till he was a year old.
Egluntyne
I would worm him....and the hens if they were mine, and restrict food oter than pellets and water for a few days. If you can get hold of some bokashi bran and added it to the pellets, it might help settle the poos. If they persist, I'd take him to the vet. shelley8179
I think he has sour crop!! His crop is soft and squigy and when i massage it he sort of burps and it smells very bad. My husband empted his crop last night by turning him upside down and massaging his crop. It didn't seem to make much differance, but he did it again this morning. He is just sat down very still with his head low. He is taking water through a syringe but is not interested in food we have tried giving him natural live youghurt but again not interested! He is currently living in the front room to keep him warm. Any tips would be greatly appreciated as he does not look well at all.
Egluntyne
Dactarin gel from the chemist, a pea sized blob, squited into his mouth three times a day might help. It might be a good idea to take him to the vet tbh.
shelley8179
The vets didnt know what was wrong and Harry died over night. Im very upset as I hatched him he was the only one out of 6 eggs to hatch. Ive just got the girls now and they look a bit lost without him
Patricia W
I'm so so sorry Shelley for your loss. We have a cockerel and its so nice to see him with the girls - a real family. We live not far from you in Abingdon, so I'd be interested in which vet you used and if you think they knew about chickens. Tricia

shelley8179
It was Larkmead in cholsey there great with our cat and dog but most vets dont see chickens as pets yet. The girls miss him, they use to follow him around.
