sti chick
i have 12 pol chickens (19 weeks old) and i was just wondering how long roughly a 25kg sack of layers mash should last me? i have been feeding them twice a day with a little treat of either meal worms or corn in the afternoon, was told not to over do the treats until they start laying. I dont want to under feed and fear i may have given them too much . Also they are really vocal at feed times and i get the feeling they are telling me off for not getting a move on lol. The way they attack the food makes me think that they are vultures not chickens.
Tiggy
sounds normal to me
dancing cloud
My six ex-batts get through roughly a sack of pellets per month and have them available in feeders all day. I also make them pellet porridge every day and they scoff most of that, sometimes all. They still follow me round demanding treats though and hoover up their corn like they haven't seen food for weeks . Anything like grapes or mealworms disappears in micro-seconds, followed by loud complaints to the management about them being all gone
poachedegg
Their layers food (mash/pellets) should be available to them all day - it is only their treats that should be rationed.
mccroft
I too have 6 pol hens and based on the amount my last flock (of 4) ate I'm expecting a 25kg to last just short of a month with a few days feed left. I just make the layer pellets available all day. I hang a 3kg green top hat feeder in the run.
