Another FAB Freecycle bargain!!

Recommended Posts

Hi there, being as broke as I have been, even LONG before ex left the house, has meant that almost all of my furniture is "preloved" Also there seemed very little point shelling out on good furniture when I have a 3 year old who loves to draw, on anything with anything, walls with cheese triangles, coffee tables with biros.... anyway you get the picture. When ex was here and we were having the children over from Belarus we managed to get a HUGE oval ex-conference table type thingy which easily seats 10 and was great at Christmas and childrens parties etc, but to be honest, now there's just the four of us it takes up SO much space I've been after a much smaller model, or even one with leaves that folds out. I have been "bidding" on almost every one I've seen on Freecycle but have always missed out. Then I saw another one two days ago, I replied within 20 minutes of it being posted (I'm never normally on line when they get posted  ) but I missed it - just :wall: Anyway, have had an e mail tonight from the giver saying that the other person failed to show and do I still want it :D:D:D

Silly how little things mae you happy, I am SOOOO pleased, am taking eggs and a jar of pickle to say thank you. To be really honest, every time I sit down or walk round our enormous table I just end up looking at the empty chair at the end :? so I need to get rid of it.

Am collecting it Friday night all things being equal. I love Freecycle - someone posted on there that they are helping a friend from Venezuela who's 7 month old son is coming over for reconstructive surgery and did anyone have anything to help him feel at home whilst he was there? So I've managed to "offload" my SECOND wooden cot, a bag of boys clothes and some toys (there would have been more but my own smallies saw the toys disappearing into the bag and "Ooops, word censored!"bled a few back  ) I hope it's a true story, I can be a bit sceptical, but to be honest it's SO far fetched I kind of think it has to be true!

there are nice people out there, keep the faith hun ;)

DH asked for a DVD player because his sister (who lost her husband around the same time as I lost my dad) has a 2 year toddler who can't watch Dora the Explorer because their DVD broke and they can't afford a new one. He got a reply within a few minutes, in fact he was offered 2!

I love freecycle! Our local one isn't very active so I've registered with a few other local-ish ones. :D

I put a few bits on there, infact I have someone coming for some outgorwn school sweatshirts on friday. :D

I know what you mean about not knowing whether the stories are true, I sometimes have my doubts, and I never reply to rude people :shameonu::) doesn't cost anything to be polite.

My hubby and I love the 'sob stories' we read, they make us laugh.

hark at the ice queen!:wink:

What makes me laugh is the posts that stipulate who the items should go to and what you need to be to qualify, i.e. disabled, elderly, unemployed etc etc and even one that told people how they should word their reply! You either want to get rid of your stuff or you don't!

Sometimes though it's not so much you need or want to get rid of the stuff as much as you know there will be someone out there it will help so if I post something I usually put something like 'only polite replies will be answered' and normally always state that I will NOT give to the first reply, because some people still believe is the name of the game with freecycle  to get that quick worded reply in fast and you'll get the item... wrong! That's not what freecycles rules say either.

How about a picture of the new table BB?? :D when you collect it of course. :D

I only ever answer polite e-mails and am always polite when I respond to an offer but I don't think people need to be told how to word their responses. In fact, if you do tell them then you're only giving the rude ones a 'heads up' ;)

I even put 'wanted please' rather than just 'wanted' in the subject if I ever have occasion to post a wanted ad. I've never seen anyone else bother to do that.

That's great, Becky :D . Obviously meant to be!

I'm collecting some 3x2 ft slabs from Freecycle soon (for my walk in run  ). They'd been marked as collected, I didn't notice & emailed, and the guy emailed back saying he's still got 8 left!

hold on a mo! You're getting a walk-in run! How did you wangle that one, I thought your OH was dead against it?

I still pref to tell people polite replies only, IMO if they want to answer one of my ads thats my right, yes it might give the impolite ones a 'heads up', but I am a pretty good judge of character and tend to know the people I wouldn't give to instantly, impolite people shine through a mile off, it doesn't matter how they try to mask it.

Never usually bother getting his permission, so why change now :twisted: ? I'd never really suggested it to him before, but I put the idea to him last week & he had no objections  . Joiner's coming tomorrow and I have a quote from Aviaries4U for comparison purposes :D . Can't afford anything too swish :( .
