AJuff
I think my run is so boring. What do you all put into your runs to make them a bit more interesting?
tom123
In my run I have a big bush that they all dustbath under, LOTS of perches, logs, stumps, tyres. Other things like lettuce or cabbage hanging are great hentertainment. Will try to get some pics tomorrow Tom
TheCoop
Our have a couple of wooden posts to perch on and an upturned Tesco green delivery box which they like to hop on and off of, plus a sweetcorn cob hanging from the roof of the run for them to peck at. I think they are fairly (h)entertained.
Larkspurs
We recently bought a Tumble n Treat ( for Rabbit and Guinea Pigs)...basically treats tumble out as it rolls about. We've filled it with meal worms We also have a dustbath which they like to s"Ooops, word censored!" around in... Dave
McChook
I've got a couple of tree stumps in my run which they jump on and off of, and a big teracotta plantpot they like to use as a dustbath. There are usually a couple of cabbages rolling around which keep them occupied too.
Egluntyne
Logs and a dust bath, and greens hung up for them to peck at.
Ain't Nobody Here
Saw someone using an old tyre as a dustbath . I'm going to phone Kwikfit tomorrow . Are they allowed to give away old tyres these days ? I think they have to pay to get them disposed of properly, don't they?
AJuff
Thank you for all the ideas . . . i am going to have a good dig around the garage and greenhouse and set up an interesting arae for them. I always thought about doing something but didn't really know what. Now that they are restricted to their run during the week whilst the builders are on site they need a more entertaining area. Snowy
Definitely lots of perches. I put some quite high up (my head height) but never really thought they would use them, but they do now.
Tulip
Last week I bought in the pet shop a £2.99 hanging treat ball (made for hamsters and the like). It's hung above chook head height so they have to jump for the treats... I'm hoping the exercise will stop Cinnamon becoming too much of a porky Orpy.... x
AJuff
Well I have been out into the spring sunshine in just a fleece and entertained the hens. I have put into their run the old sand tray for them to jump up on. I have left it underneath the hole in the taurpaulin so that it can catch the rain water for them to drink from. I have added a large low purple tub trug with dust bathning potential. OH chopped down a rogue hazel tree in amongst the laurel hedge and I put that in there for them to climb on. And a large plant pot to jump/perch on. I hope they eenjoy it as they were too interested in the grass to look at my efforts. Builders back in the morning so they will be shut in all week!
