Chicken gun

Recommended Posts

I disagree with n number of chickens being made available for Richard Hammond to film .... a point that I did not make clear iniitally.

I do see your point, of course but I wonder how much similar research is already on file.

Now that we know that a chicken strike at 180 knots will not dent an Airbus it would be comforting to know that the technical info would be widely available.

Surely though chicken isn't realistic. I know mine can reach 3 feet, but hardly high enough to cause a 747 to panic.

Why not use pigeons aka vermin with wings!!!

Ahh ...... it's not a 747 but a French Airbus made in Toulouse.

They of the inhumane Toulouse sausage.

Maybe french chickens can fly to the rotating height of french passenger aircraft

Someone on here did have the signature

'eagles may soar but chickens don't fly into jet engines'

I think its to do with weight. A chicken is more simialar in weight to a lot of birds of prey than a pigeon. I guess another threat to aircraft are geese which again are a lot bigger than pigeons

But they have to test planes etc, and they have to be as realistic as possible, so a man made alternative would not work. Its either chicken being fired out of a cannon or a plane exploding.

I'm sure they could get something the same weight and size as a bird to simulate bird strikes rather than use chickens.

Certainly upset me to see it, although I too want to know that planes are made of safe stuff.
