Couperwife
no snowy, how much yarn did you get to make your blanket? I am now enthusiastic girl - just learned something new - cant leave it alone, if im not carful ill end up with millions of these little flowery things and nothing done with them next, im going to try adding another colour and then making hexagons I think ill start with a pussycat blanket then ill move onto something BIG cathy x
craftyhunnypie
I couldn't do this version of making squares. In my version, you only do trebles, you don't do ' bobbles' - so I get confused. Will have to try again later now my arm isn't so stiff after my fall. I've just treated myself to let's knit magazine & there are some crochet things in there too. chickweed
[quote name="Couperwife" erm' date=' how can I get this past the "buy nothing new" idea cathy x[/quote] Ask around all your friends and relatives for any unwanted left over wool. Try unravelling an old sweater, wind it around a tray or something , wet it and let it dry. It might work providing the wool hasn'become too matted. Snowy
I got 18 balls to start with - what you can see has taken 6 balls so far, 1 of each colour. Trouble is, I found the same wool in the co-op today and they had a bigger range of colours. Is it going to look very odd if I start introducing new colours now? Thats the only problem with this blanket - you attach the hexs as you go along, you can't mix them up and rearrange them at the end And it isn't counted as buying anything 'new', I 'need' a blanket for camping, so I'm making one Just the same as buying the ingredients to make a cake. I like your style sorted the ingredients.... thanks erm, how do I attach a new colour when crochetting I knotted in the original colour, now I cant add the new one, it doesnt make sense HElllllllllllllllppppppp cathy x
Snowy
Personally I can't get on with the knotting method Insert your hook and loop around the new colour, draw it through and continue as normal, leaing the loose tail at the back (leave about 5"). Trail the two loose ends along the back of your work so that you crochet around them every time you pull a loop through (or you can leave them loose and darn them in at the end)

Being left handed, i gave up on trying crochet a couple of years ago, with my grandad and mum both trying to teach me right handed, pictures in books dont seem to make sense, but a video of it does and its great I could already knit and sew I also suffer from insomnia from time to time Last night, i learnt how to crochet Mum came downstairs to leave for work, and there was me grinning "MUM I cant crochet!" She looked at me as if i'd lost it, i then explained Now just to create something rather than random squares and circles.
Egzandra
How wonderful to have such clear videos on how to crochet left handed! I learnt something, and that is how to make the first slip knot - the one I have been making is not as flexible as that one, shown on the Chain video. Not that I think it makes a lot of difference at the moment, but it might be useful to close up a loop. Perhaps I am missing something, I can only see the picture as my computer does not have sound, but it would be nice to see how she is holding/tensioning the yarn in the right hand. I could not see this clearly. I have mine, from the ball, around and under my right little finger and over the ring, middle and forefinger of my right hand. I am working quite well like this but I would like to try it her way!
craftyhunnypie
Snowy - do you have instructions for the hexagons please - I too would like to make a caravan blanket. Also - does anyone have an easy fail proof doily pattern? I bought some glittery cotton from Lidl & it's just asking to be made into something pretty.
