Romany
Just wondering why oh why don't Omlet make the tope section of the cube run out of a solid material?! Everyone seems to have problems with the shades fading and degrading in the sun... no one likes a wet muddy run... and we all seem to be devising more and more ingenious ways of covering the run - surely they could just make a run with a rainproof roof?! Ain't Nobody Here
I was pondering something similar the other day . Why don't they make a clear Omlet rain cover? The dark green makes the runs so dark and gloomy.
Ygerna
I think they *could* make a solid roof, but, it would probably increase the production/purchase costs and increase the delivery costs to. My waterproof raincover cost me 87p in Ikea. Its one of their very cheap n cheerfull shower curtains.
blackgold
A clear raincover wouldnt be any good when the sun is beating down though would it? A choice of winter and summer covers would be nice though. love Sue xxx
Romany
I'm sure there are materials that would let light through without incinerating the poor chooks!... onduline goes all warped and is dismally dark, felt is dark and a haven for red mite, clear perspex too see-though for sun... But I'm sure they could design something translucent but of a rigid material so that it would last longer... The wind seemed to shred my last Omlet cover once it was a bit sun-worn. blackgold
How about a concertina type blind. I had them in my other conservatory. If they were on some sort of frame you could draw them as necessary. If made of thin plastic they could be waterproof like tongue and groove affect. Just thinking aloud lol love Suexxx
Jules.
That's a great idea Sue. It's a bit like a retractable sun/rain roof for chooks.
Romany
How about a concertina type blind. I really like that idea - made me chuckle! How about some curtains for the cube too! Seriously though... blinds probably could work... but you'd have to be on hand to adjust them... I wonder if they could just make a run roof that was just a continuation of the cube roof - same curvature, same colour, same material, so that it would provide some more substantial shelter? Jules.
It could even just slide in under the existing cube roof
Romany
It could even just slide in under the existing cube roof So it wouldn't interfere with opening the cube roof... Jules I think you have something there! I bet they will design one and have it as standard the day after my cube arrives! Just like the silly run door! Jules.
Should I patent it

blackgold
hey you lot it was my idea, I want all royalties...........I thought a wire type frame shaped to the run with interlocking plastic strips that could be pulled all the way across for winter and hot weather. Maybe clear plastic for winter and dark colours for shade (to match eglu lol)in summer On my old conservatory the ceiling blinds are threaded through a wire and are opened and closed by a pole. Romany
Post some pics when you get it installed - I can't wait to see the blinds in action! You may start a new trend
blackgold
Oh no I am the inventor. I was hoping some one with the power from Omlet would read this and get their manufacturers on it. I would trial it of course . And then be able to retire with the royalties when everybody buys one lol Love Sue xxx
Romany
I just had another brainwave How about using the retracting blinds idea (with built-in motor and automatic weather sensor of course ) but the blind material could be made out of photo-sensitive ploycarbonate - like in polaroid lenses (you know, the ones that turn into sunglasses when the light is bright!) Think I'm getting silly now - time for bed!!
Egg Lou
Love these ideas! I have used two gazebo 'walls' that have clear windows, you know the type you buy for the main gazebo but never use! They do a fab job as totally cover the sides of the run but let light in from the two large windows.. I also put the perches at window level so they tend to sit and watch through them
