Stevie
Since getting the Eglu in april last year with Sage & Onion-they've pretty much had full roam of my garden.Other than hosing their poop off decking/path-they've done very little damage and i enjoyed looking outside and seeing them happily pecking away,but... We've had sooooo much rain & snow recently and my lawn has taken a turn for the worst with their assistance..it now looks like a WW1 battlefield. I didnt want to confine them purely to the Eglu because they've had so much freedom so i bought some chicken wire and sectioned off the left hand border in my garden then attached the Eglu to it.Its still got all the shrubs and with plenty of soil to scratch about in its like an adventure playground! My napalmed lawn!!! Sage & Onion Their playground attached to Eglu. Their run goes down to bottom and then to right so still have plenty of space. Stevie
Stevie great to see you online, I was wondering how you and your girls were doing. (Loopyloo with a name change) Hello there! The girls are doing fine, but were a bit confused by all the snow recently and kept dashing inside house at any opportunity to see what Vegas my Bullmastiff had left behind in his bowl. They're still not entirely happy at being semi confined, but if i dont my garden will soon look like a farmyard! I might get a roll of the Omlet netting so i can give them different parts of garden by moving it around, but i'll see how this set up works out. I am however itching to get two more... Sage & Onion in the snow... and again-obviously before confinement. And Onion patiently waiting her turn for a drink!
Cooks
I love that last picture! Yes my girls did not know what to make of the snow either, they were most put out.. I understand what you mean about your garden mine is worse and worse each day AND I have a walk in run. I have now bought a cube so my orange eglu is reserved for another omleteer, but I have added two more girls a week ago myself and am currently using the eglu to introduce them slowly. What type of girls are you itching for?? you have been busy!, their area looks great and your garden will return to looking like a show garden
Stevie
I've been looking at that place in Bottisham and i've got a hankering for two Blubelles. They look so striking in that colour and it says they're tame! See here http://www.cambridgepoultry.co.uk/poultryforsale.htm The Eglu is suitable for upto 4 birds and they'll have plenty of space to move around without them feeling hemmed in so i cant forsee any problems like bullying.Plus, they'll only be sleeping in the Eglu plus laying and they will have ooodles of places to explore in my border playground and i can extend it further still. cluckbok
Hi Stevie, Our grass is looking a bit like yours But we have hope that it will come back lush and green again. Are you going to add a run extension on your eglu run if you getting another 2? We were thinking of getting another, but not made the move yet. We would get another from Cambridge Poultry, not been there before but spoke on the phone and they friendly.

I wont need a run extension because the Eglu is attached to chicken wire all down one side of plant border so they currently have 7ft of standard Eglu run plus around 25ft of the border-which is ample.Im still toying with the idea of getting Omlet netting and sectioning off various parts of garden, but rotaing it so the lawn dont get destroyed-as it is now..! *mummy_hen*
Lovely pictures, my garden has also been chickened over the winter months. Husband and i have decided next weekend we are going to chicken proof the garden - they killed our lawn so think we may have to opt for gravel!! They are weapons of mass destruction....but we love them!!
Hen Watch
Hi. I went through this last year. Last winter hubbie put his foot down and we got Omlet netting and now the girls just wreck one patch over winter, which we reseed in Spring. I have to say the Omlet 25m netting isn't cheap but I would say it has been my best chicken buy in the last 2 years. I even cut mine in half so I have 2 sections. chelsea
Im relieved now Stevie, cos I was beginning to think you had the most perfect lawn & chickens in Omletland and now see that your hens are just like mine! I think you've saved your lawn just in time though - ours is brown "farmyard" style mud now.
chooklady
My grass has been chickened too, if the dog had done what they have done he would never have got away with it! I've got a Bluebelle, she is gorgeous, go on treat yourself!

When i got home from work today,i went outside to retrieve eggs, top up grub & glug, make a fuss of em' and i thought i'd have a go at raking the compacted poop on right side of first photo.Turns out it isnt poo and its their food cos i could smell the garlic i add to it so now i have a really stinky lawn! The lawn was doing sort of ok until we kept getting rain then snow then rain then snow and the chooks kinda went mad scratching.Should be alright with a bit of tlc.
