french toast
Hi we took a bullied hen from a friend, and have no idea what breed it is. It has been pecked and lost a few feathers although they seem to be coming back now. It lays gorgeous blue medium size eggs. Can anyone help ? Thanks in advance

The Dogmother
Looks like a black araucana to me. I have 3 araucanas and they are brilliant layers and very hardy too.
french toast
Thank you, We had looked at Araucanian but could not find a pic resembling her. Off to read some threads now and do some homework on her. Any advice on keeping her would be most welcome thanks again
Cooks
it's funny but I actually thought it was a black araucana but didn't have the nerve to say it in case it was wrong  gorgeous!
The Dogmother
You were right Loops! They are very easy to keep and don't need any special attention, in fact they're healthier than most birds. One of mine is now on her 5th laying season and still gives me 4-5 eggs a week depending on the time of year. I find that the yolks taste slightly richer. The Dogmother
They are dotty as anything and not the most cuddly of chickens. None of mine has ever crouched, but they have nice personalities and are good layers in terms of egg numbers and quality. Each of mine lays a different shade of egg so I can tell who is laying, which is helpful.

I have enjoyed the four hybrids who introduced me to chickens and while it's nice to have a petting hen it's also nice to try different breeds. Anyway, it's something to hope for in the very near future.
The Dogmother
I'd certainly recommend them. The full sized version (it also comes in miniature) is smaller than your average hybrid.
redfrock
I have a lavendar one and she laid her first egg today, just 3 days after getting her . Mine is ever so bad tempered and keeps chasing my gorgeous silkie. I'm hoping it was just hormones . She laid quite a light blue egg, simialr to the skyline. I think they are very striking birds and am thrilled with my girl - now if only she could lose her temper tantrums ....

Another to add to the wish list along with a Corton Blue Claret, how are they re temperament? Dani Just to add to your torture DA, my Corton Blues are turning out to have lovely temperaments now they're both laying. They follow us round like little dogs, and are getting quite used to being cuddled . That black Araucana is a lovely looking girl, quite the wow factor. french toast
They are great names, I love them! Why dont you post some pictures of your other girls for us to see? Cheers, will post some pics of them asap. The first two we got( the bantum for free and a hybrid for four quid) were a bit scruffy, but a couple of weeks later they look great and healthy - then we were given two bullied scruffy bantums and also a bullied araucana, they too should be looking very well soon. The araucana has taken over a bit, (for being last in!) but they've got pleanty of free roaming space here, and should do very well. Although the araucana is black, it's got a metalic-like-green colouring on its body. Thanks again for all your replys, will post some pics soon.
