MitchB
So far a Silver Dorking and an Orpington chick have emerged, currently drying out in the incubator. The other three eggs have started pipping but as yet no further. Amazing to watch, family gathered round incubator all evening and DD did not want to go to bed!!! Griffin
Congratulations! Looking forward to pics. I'll be hatching Silver Grey Dorkings in May so especially looking forward to pics of those. I can't keep cockerels here so my boys will be dinner. Dorkings are supposed to be an excellent meat bird Did you get any sleep last night? I didn't when mine were hatching. My incy is in my bedroom and I could hear what was going on from my bed so had to keep getting up for a nosey

I got them from the dtbcentre.co.uk spoke to a lovely lady there and ordered them, came safely thru post in the polystyrene box. 5 of the 6 were fertile and all hatched as you can see. ted
Thanks Griffin, thats something else I have learnt. Do most breeds have such a difference from that early?
feemcg
Nice hatch ......I have 6 Silver Grey Dorking eggs in the incy........and they're all clear . Giving them another couple of days but I'm fairly sure. I've had really good success with ebay eggs in the past.......suppose it was going to happen eventually
Cooks
I think Splodge is my favourite
Griffin
Thanks Griffin, thats something else I have learnt. Do most breeds have such a difference from that early? No, I believe it's easier with large fowl but very difficult with smaller breeds such as Silkies and Aracaunas. With my mixed batch of Ebay eggs I was sure about 4/6 at a day old. They're five weeks old now and I still haven't changed my mind about them. My Light Sussex chicks are 11 days old and it was easy to feather sex them, LS are supposed to be amongst the easiest and most reliable. I predicted 4/5 were boys and it looks as if I was right. I guess it was bound to happen considering there were so many girls in the first hatch Why can't I be that lucky all the time?
MitchB
Thanks everyone, Been busy enjoying the company of the chicks and also making sure my big girls aren't . OH and I out in garden digging this afternoon in their enclosure it was very comical, the girls at OH's feet watching for the next spadeful of earth to be thrown behind them. It got so he had to stop wait for them to be distracted then put the spade in avoiding any possible accidents.
beingmaisie
Aww, they are so lovely and such a difference in colours and markings. I'm hoping to put my first lot of eggs in to incubate next weekend, once kindly hubby has made the incubator anyway. Makes me even more impatient now seeing those.
