meezers
I read on a forum ( can't remember which one )of someone who uses ordinary compost - the sort you buy for containers from the garden centre, in their runs. They said it was very easy to clean out when needed and could then be put straight onto the garden. The poster in question had lots of chooks ( may have been a breeder ? ) and seemed to know what they were talking about. I like the idea as my compost bin is overflowing with woodchip/ chicken poo mix and it weighs quite a bit when you come to shovel it out of the run. Has anyone else tried compost ? think I may get a bag next time the run needs cleaning.
Redwing
I have heard of using sand but not compost the only negatives I can think of are the fact that it might be a bit dusty and if it got too wet it could be messy On the plus side would be the gardening aspects!
