Well it's my first hatch day of the year (and probably not my last ). French Copper Blue Marans today (50% chance Blue, 25% Black, 25% Splash). One wee blue out so far and another 2 pipped. I tried these eggs last year and got 2 gorgeous Blue and Black boys! and no girlies, so fingers crossed.

They are so cute How old will they be before they can be sexed?

Well I'll try and feather sex them tomorrow.....have very mixed results with this. Then I'll have a look at the way they stand over the next few days when they're more upright.....I often find the boys are more upright, have chunky looking thighs and longer looking legs. Then I'll watch for wattle development...the boys getting wee pinky/red buds first. It's just a gradual guessing game really

I think my recent attempt at feather sexing my Light Sussex has been disasterous At a day old I thought I had 1 girl and 4 boys. Now at 3 and a half weeks her comb is bigger than anyone elses and I'm sure she's a boy I know I wanted some boys for meat but not all of them!

Well, final tally is 6.......last one was a real struggle, almost 2 days after the 1st, and I confess to helping it along a wee bit. 3 Copper Blue Marans, 2 Splash and 1 Black.

1 Blue and 1 Splash look like boys already from their stance......just have to wait and see. More pics once the wee straggler has fluffed up a bit
