Logging on for decorated egg ideas, please

Recommended Posts

Ethan has a competition at school where he has to decorate a hard-boiled egg. I'm not arty or designy at all, & so wondered if anyone had any ideas what we could do?

The only idea I have ( & it has been a pilfered idea  ) is to stick feathers from my girls on it, & turn it into a "real- life" chick.

PS I don't like the new smilies :(

Ah yes, I remeber the annual primary school egg decorating comp. My girls each won it :P

Cleos one was great. She made a huge flower head out of card, coloured it in brightly, popped it in a flower pot with some earth, then made a Bee Egg which she hung from a petal with invisible thread.

It was fairly simple, but very bright,Eastery & effective :P

She also did a cow laying in a 'meadow' of grass clips & daisy heads picked from the lawn once too 8)

I LOVED doing this at school.

One year I made one into a frog.

Two blobs of plasticine on top of egg (painted green) for his eyes.

A loop of green paper/card either side of the egg coming from the base to form big froggy back legs and two smaller straight pieces of green paper/card stuck at the front for his front legs. Felt tip a big smile and his 'eye balls' on the plasticine and there you have it!

To make him stand up I made a lilly pad in green card and stuck the metal casing from a spent tea light onto it (Painted green)

Voila!

I've drawn a quick pic on the pooter to show you...

Or you could paint an egg black. Cover it with cotton wool (apart from the pointier end), chop a wine cork into 4 for legs, painted black... a sheep!

I made an owl. Cut up sticky paper (in brown of course!) into little feather shapes and painstakingly licked the tips and stuck them on and then stuck some googly eyes on. It looked great and I won first prize! :D This must have been when I was about 6 or 7 so 28 years ago!

I remember these from when I was a child.

My mum, sister and I used to dye the eggs with beetroot, onion skins and various edible food dyes then scratch a design into the shells through the dye.

They were called Pisanki

The kids' efforts were a little crude I must say but we all enjoyed doing them.

I never tasted a chocolate egg till I was 12 or so.

My mum used to take hours making a special poppy seed cake for Easter ... I can still smell it and feel the warmth of the kitchen as the dough was proving.
