Clear PVC?? or alternative clear roof panels advice please

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am going to use a mix of onduline but would like to put a couple sheets pVC just for light ??? or is there any other substantial clear roofiing available(I am worried the pvc will get brittle and crack)

Also any tips on cutting it?? As i read some comments about it splitting??

Thanks

indie :?

promise to post some pics of my half built WIR for short people! :)

Thanks I have done half the run roof with weldmesh & am going to onduline the other half and am going to buy a tarpaflex and probably use some bungee straps to hold it on?

I thought in the winter or rain could use it and in the hot summer  that we will have at least i can take it off..

That is the BIG plan anyway..i keep promising to put some pics on as my (cube green) comes on 14th April

thank you

We have clear rigid plastic sheets on our cube run. They bent quite nicely over the run. They are held on by green garden clip things. It has worked really well during the winter months to keep the run dry. I'm thinking of keeping them and using them to protect the side of the WIR when its built.

We've just upgraded to a WiR, but before that we had two sheets of corrugated uPVC sheet over the top of our Eglu Run, held on by bungy straps. It was great in Winter, letting lots of light through on grey days and was easy to remove in Summer once it got hot .

The sheeting is now 3 years old and still as good as new (i.e. still flexible and has not cracked or split). It came from Wickes originally. The (blackrabbit) rabbit now lives in the Eglu run!

Thanks very much i am going to go for the tarpualex and am just going to go and collect some onduline panels so half is open to the air via weldmesh roof and the other is going to be onduline

If the weather gets really bad i will cover the weldmesh side with the tarpulex.

My garden is southfacing so at least the onduline will give them extra shade in the really hot summer that we are going to have :D

Well i have now bashed 6 panels of onduline with my son and we had a great time till late last night banging nails in. So half the run has mesh and plenty of light the onduline has made the cube end a bit dark but as i am south facing garden at least tis shade in the summer/dry(I also hoped that the chickens would stilll think its nighttime early in the morning and have a lie in  ).

So I will get a tarpulex to keep it rainproof a bit if we get endless days of showers

Now I am picking up 2 chickens this coming tuesday to go with the GNRGNR which are coming next week..cant wait

We have just put a roof on our crouch in run as one particular chicken (Cocoa!) kept jumping up onto the side. We used some corugated clear plastic roofing from Wickes (about £8 a sheet) and we got some proper screws with plastic caps to fix it on with. Hubby spent a good half hour with a soldering iron and a straight edge melting the plastic as a way of cutting it. I'm sure I've heard of a hot knife - maybe you can hire one?

Yes I saw the clear pvc and it does look really good on the eglu runs..fits really well ...I have ended up buying a lot of wood etc but may regret not putting the pvc on...purely for the light but it is completely open under weldmesh at the other end..am glad to know they will have a dry area

In fact i am now thinking i should get an eglu too .I do like the design of them... :)
