Daphne
I thought this only happened to other people but somebody gave our vets a young white orpington cockeral because he was fighting with other boys (and coming off worst). He was going to be dinner, but the vet knows we have orps and so he's been offered to us He's got a lovely nature, adores being picked up and carried about and is he in cockeral heaven with our ladies He has fallen for Daphne big time, tho not entirely sure what she thinks about it, having been a maiden hen for over 3 years Anyway, he is very noisy so he may not be staying, but its been great having Harold for 2 days at least

Daphne
well so far and touching all wood, immediate neighbours having been saying all the right things - we are semi rural and people say they quite like the fact he's adding to the sounds of the countryside - so we'll perhaps give him a week and see where we are then. He does cock a doodle doo on and off all through the day, so its not ideal, but we're kind of hoping he might calm down a bit when he realises there is no competition (!) Also, so far, he hasn't woken anybody up. If it doesn't work out I'll try to rehome him as white orps are reasonably uncommon. Otherwise he will be dinner; its what would have happened to him on Friday.
