LittleBoPeep
went to our chicken breeder today for some feed and ended up with a skyline. She's very pretty and has now been introduced to our other girls. All seems to be going OK. Have been told they are very flightly and she is now on top of cube. Will be letting her out in garden tomorrow and am hoping she's not going to head for the sky.
cluckbok
We got a Columbine which is the same thing. She's not that flighty. Just jumps on the patio table and then off again after she's discovered there's nothing there for her. I wonder what colour eggs you will get, have you looked at her ears? Ours has white ears, so white eggs. She's our favourite, though I know you shouldn't have a favourite.

Cooks
mine has greeny tinged ears but lays cream eggs, so it's no guarantee
Ain't Nobody Here
I have a Columbine too and she lays green eggs (her ears are very slightly green). She's the most adventurous of my 3 and will usually be found plotting ways to get up and over things .
LittleBoPeep
Well they've all gone to bed now, the skyline I had to place in the cube. Hopefully they should all get on tomorrow and sort out the pecking order. Couldn't see what colour her ears are so will wait and see what happens. Cooks
mine too Griffin, I love her dearly, just goes to show though the earlobe check is not a clear guide, but can only be used as a 'possible' the place where I got her were stunned she lays cream as the ones that have not gone on to lay green/blue have laid other pastel shades. lol she wanted to be different I guess.. lololol

puddleduck
Oh No! I got my columbine on monday dreaming of blue/green eggs.... never knew about this ear colour theory. Mine has yellow/cream ears. Griffin
Here are Freyas deceptively slightly green ears They're like her eggs, you can see a hint of green if you screw your eyes up
LittleBoPeep
Evening, since I was last on, other chooks are seriously avoiding Lily (new skyline). They've all been out in the garden together but she is totally on her own. Managed to get them all in the cube last night, but this morning she jumped up on top of cube and stayed there. Any ideas how extra I can help with the intergration or will it just come naturally. TIA

redfrock
the best guide, rather than the ear lobes, is the feather colour. Those that are mainly grey, rather than ginger, are closest to the legbar and so are more likely to lay blue eggs. Its to do with the genes! Cooks
well mine is greyer in colour and she lays cream LOLOLOL
redfrock
well mine is greyer in colour and she lays cream LOLOLOL I think she is just being deliberately awkward . It was info I was given by my chicken guru . It worked for us. I wanted the pretty ginger one but I also wanted blue eggs . Ben only had one spare that day so I took my chances and went for the grey one... and bingo Agatha lays blue eggs, but then I guess we do have a 4 out of 5 chance, given that 80% of them should lay blue eggs
Cooks
yes your right she's probably awkward, but then again her little cream eggs are so special I cant fault her.. LOL
