wombatally
Well I have had one hatch, it pipped last night and appeared about an hour ago. It is really weak though and had spalyed legs. I managed to strap the legs together with string. It looks like it is exhausted and I'm not really sure that it will last the night as it keeps lying down with it's eyes closed. You then stroke it and it cheeps like mad for a few minturs, when I stop it goes droopy again. I did notice a bit of blood from its bottom end when it hatched and wonder if it was stuck to the shell. Anyway, I'm not religious but am praying that this lovely little thing makes it Another two have pipped and are cheeping away. I will take some pics when they arrive! Any advice on the wee fluffy thing tied together with string would be most gratefully received!!!
wombatally
By the way - I know they can go without food but should it have water - it isn't showing any interest yet but I have been tying to drip some into its mouth? Thanks
Plum
Sorry about this poor one . It sounds like you know what you are doing. Good luck with the others.
wombatally
Ha ha Plum, know what I am doing I thought I was all prepared but I have turned into a nervous wreck!!!
Griffin
I wouldn't worry too much about it being sleepy, they wander around drunk for 24 hours while they figure out which way is up and do spend a lot of time asleep.

craftyhunnypie
If it makes the night - then I usually assume that they will make it. All chicks are droopy when they are day old. The next day, they find their feet. I always dip the beaks of my chicks in the shallow water, by holding them in my hand. I do this a few times & assess that they have found where the water is. I settle when I see them drink for themselves. I should think the chick will make it. Emma.x
Egluntyne
I have dipped the beaks of my 2 chicks into water as Craftyhunnypie suggests. They got the idea about swallowing very quickly.
