Day 8 candling

Recommended Posts

Light Sussex.

1/3 of the eggs are for me, & the other 2/3 are for 2 other people.

The incy isn't mine, it's my friends B's.

I hope to get 2 hens & 2 cocks out of the eggs which are for me, the girls will be added to my laying flock, as will the boys until they crow.

Then they will be eaten.

I love candling  ....but used to lift the lid and take the eggs out one by one to candle....until I dropped the lid one night and smashed one of the eggs which splattered all over the other eggs. There was also yolk running down the wall........and no sign of fertility thankfully. I now just lift the whole tray out, candle them all, then put the tray back in.

How exciting. Have you eaten a Light Sussex before? We ate our LS boy, he was 8lb complete and 5lb8 oven ready! He was HUGE but he cooked in an hour - no water or rubbish in him! And he tasted divine. :D

Good luck with your hatches!

How old was he when he started to crow? My LS boy is 6 weeks old now and as soon as he crows he has to go. I'm hoping he's a good enough size before he does!
