Sainsbury's have renamed pollock because customers at their fish counter were too embarrassed to ask for it by its original name! It's now called Colin! And it's not even April 1st anymore...

There was a whole programme about this on Radio 4 this morning, to begin with I thought it was a joke especially when they said that the painter Jackson Pollock was going to design something to help with the re-branding. They also renamed Rock Salmon a while ago because it is not salmon, it is now called Huss We really have to stop buying cod because the stocks are in danger of running out, so I guess Colin is a good substitute.

I keep thinking of the dog in Spaced called Colin. There is a whole video on youtube called' Space: the Colin version'.

 

I didn't know that about Huss. I always used to call it rock and forgot it was short for rock salmon. I presumed 'huss' was a regional name for it. Huss sounds like 'wuss' to me, or huss with an extra syllable on the end. Almost as bad a name as, er, original Colin...

I've set up a facebook group called 'We'll call pollock Colin if we can call cod Nigel'. Facebook groups are the new 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells'!
