mictogirl
Well, we never made to the 4:30pm vets appointment, she died earlier this afternoon The worst thing was trying to explain to the kids - she was their favourite. My little girl (19 months) said she was sleeping which I guess she is! My little boy (3.5) seemed to think the other chickens had hurt her and didn't get it was just because she was old, bless him. Ah well, she lived a very long life and is at peace now - RIP Tiny

Romany
So sorry to hear about Tiny. Children are very resilient - they tend to take life as it comes. My daughter was just about 4 when Lady Grey, our first chicken, died and she was very sad. She still talks about missing her two years later but in a resigned 'that's life' sort of way... I think (hope) it is healthy for them to learn about love and loss in the natural scheme of things... Incidentally, our remaining 5 chickens got foxed a few months after Lady Grey died and my daughter never mentions that horrific incident at all unless she is asked, and then she happily informs whoever asked of the full details of the foxing in an incredibly matter of fact way.
