Mrs Frugal
Oooo, sounds fab! I love Scotland. Should be plenty to do if you ever get bored of looking at all that magnificent scenery. Have a lovely time, won't you.
ali-s
Lucky you You will love it there. We went for a holiday in that area three years ago. The castle is splendid. It is the same castle the BBC red balloon floated over in their advert for the BBC. Hopefully you will have missed Midgy season If you have never encountered them you cannot believe what they are like. You have quite a trek from Devon Are you driving? Happy holiday
chelsea
thanks all..! yes we are driving up on friday...staying 1 night in a "days Inn" motel at Abington and then carrying on the next morning....we did it last year and it usually takes us 6-7 hours the first day and 5 hours the second day! We take our time as for us the driving up there is just as exciting...and we have to stop frequently for doggy wee's
ali-s
We often stop at Abington during our trek South. Isn't that the one with the lake and a good bit of grass for doggy walks
chelsea
I cant recall the lake ?!...I dont think it has?.....its not far over into the scottish border from Cumbria. I think its at a place called Biggar...its just like a travel lodge - but nicer We stop at carlisle on the way home. Cant wait, we absolutely adore scotland - best place in the uk! Popcorn
Happy Holiday's Chelsea. I agree that the holiday starts the minue you drive off in the car. It's all part of the fun. Pack a picnic and a flask of hot tea and the world's your oyster We've spent many hours sat in the boot of our car in the early hours of the morning in a service station car park! Cate in NZ
Have a great holiday. I love Scotland, and it should be lovely at this time of year. And a cottage by a loch in highlands sounds like heaven I don't envy you the drive though. Last time we went up (to Aberdeen) we flew I'm a wimp when it comes to long drives... especially with bored children on board
Popcorn
Thing is we start eating as soon as we've got in the car... yes, you're so right, we do that too We get an attack of the hungry monster and scoff everything. We keep our stuff in the boot now. Take the tempation away until we really need it
chelsea
The cottage is fab, really cosy and tastefully decorated with big sofas and fire...there are loads of books, games etc in the cottage so if it is horrid weather we will just batten down the hatches and stay in. Hubby wants to fish, I dont mind fishing myself (we throw the fish back!)..plan to do lots of walking with the dog. Its just the 2 of us and the dog - so I dont blame you for flying...cant imagine how I would occupy 2 kids in the car saying "are we there yet?" feemcg
Hi Chelsea, what a coincidence - I'm writing this in Abington! My partner has a house here and we're down finishing the wooden floor. The Services are about a minute from his house. Its not the one with a lake and Biggar is a good 20 mins drive away. If you don't want to eat in the sevices there are 2 fantastic restaurants in Coulter - The Coulter Mill and The Cornhill.(We were at the Cornhill on Friday night, fantastic steaks). When you leave Abington and travel North you'll pass an exit for Larkhall - thats where me and the chickens live! Have a great holiday.
