Hi,

I've finally ordered my Eglu. I am building a woodchipped area in my garden this weekend. The area will be bordered with some kind garden edging to stop the chippings spilling out onto the grass. The Eglu house itself will be placed inside the area on top of the chippings but my border/edging will be directly behind it. I will need to be able to slide the poo tray out and over the top of the border/edging. This will therefore limit the height of the edging above the ground level. I was just wondering roughly if anyone knows how much ground clearce is required when sliding out the tray so I know how far into the ground I'll have to whack the edging. I'm hoping to get all this work done over the bank holiday weekend in preparation for the Eglu next week.

Thanks

Spencer

Simon,

The bottom of the poo tray is almost at ground level, it's no more than an inch or so up. Therefore, what you might need to do is to drop the edging at the back of the run. Either that, or extend the woodchipped area by an extra 3ft, which will allow room behind the Eglu to pull the tray back. Eglu dimensions shown below.

I am sure you have already realised this but remember you need to have enough space at the front of the run to open the run door too! :D

I hope it is not raining where you are if you are in the garden this weekend building!

I bet you are looking forward to your (green eglu) delivery!

That is an excellent point, and one which I totally overlooked a couple of years ago when installing the Eglu and run on one of our sunken vegetable patches for the winter. Eglu and run fitted a treat, but could not get the door open to let the girls out :silenced:.

Hi,

Thanks for your replys. I've just come back from Champion timber and basically bought decking to act as an edge (it will match our deck you see). Probably half will be hammered into the ground while the other half can stick up (a good three inches probably). As you say the tray doesn't really have much clearance at all, I'll have to make an 80cm cut out from the middle of the plank - that should all work then.

Whats the situation with the run door. Do you know its width, I can then work out the clearance required at the other end? I had completely forgotten about that so thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Thanks

Spencer

Sorry, my eglu run is stored up in the rafters of the garage but I have just measured the door of my guinlu run which i am 99% sure is the same and it is 45cm across and clears the gound by about 7cm.

Hopefully someone else will be along to confirm this as like I say I am 99% sure so I could be giving you wrong info
