AJuff
My run is knee deep in Easibed, I think I overdid it!! It now needs shovelling out and will take me nearly a whole day I'm sure. I am now thinking of a) Paving the whole run and putting a thinnner layer of Easibed in the run and changing it every month or b) rubber chips, pebbles or slate over the bare earth and hosing down when necessary. Advice please?
Plum
You're going to get a dozen different replies. Slabs and bedding nice and thick keep picking and change it ? well had hemcore down 10 weeks and not changed it yet. The woodchip was down for 3 months. I dont think anyone has had the rubber chips down long enough to report yet.
Olly
I used to do a thick layer of aubiose, and it just got kicked out! So now I do a thin layer and top it up when required, and mine's probably been down 10 weeks or so. As Plum says, you'll get a dozen different answers, as posters on this forum range from the 'poo pick every day' to the 'let it build up and shovel it out' brigade. Electricbarbarella
here is my cirrent situation, I am taking the eglu off au7biose and going to start moving it around every couple of days now the grass is growing again. The cube has 2 extensions so definatley not movable, i currently have aubiose on some slabs round the edges, I get on ok but am going to change to woodchip as my mum has it so it is free and I was hoping I could leave all the rain covers off so they all get more fresh air. I find it easier to move the eglu every coup[le of days and rake over the ground than to try and clean in the run.
Guest
HI I am still a beginner with chickens but put 2 sacks 90 liters wood chip from Wickes down and think i am going to take some of that out too..(i have a concrete base with soil edging for them to scratch). They spend more time on the soil and more on the concrete end..I think a scattering of something is needed..I understand the B&Q wood chips are nicer ?? I would not put rubber down as to dispose of this is going to be a real pain(ie not rot down) I think the stones pebbles would be too hard & lumpy on their feet. You can always re bag your aubiouse & keep it to use . I am toying with the idea of putting horse bedding down in a scattering in the future good luck
chelsea
I would go for option a. Slabs & thin layer of easibed/aubiose. Much easier, especially come the winter with rain and soggy ground. Also with the slabs will help prevention of disease and easier to clean etc.
