clongmoor
Our light sussex has been gaping and had diarrhea and the vet diagnosed a respiratory infection. She had antibiotic injections but has not improved. Her feathers around her vent are getting very bedraggled too and she keeps passing just water I think. The vet said that if the antibiotics didn't work there was nothing else to do but I have been reading about Oxine on the net as a treatment for fungal infection. Has anyone used it or know if it is any good? At the moment, it's not looking too good and I am worried about our other three getting it too. Lizzie
Morning I am guessing that the vet checked for gapeworm ? Sorry I haven't heard of Oxine. Hope she starts to improve soon Regards
Egluntyne
Just googled Oxine, which I've never heard of, and couldn't find anything sensible. What makes you suspect a fungal infection.
clongmoor
The vet said that if the antibiotic didn't work then it must be fungal or viral, both of which can't be treated. I was just grasping at straws really to see if there was any more info I could find. Looks like this Oxine is an american thing.
Hen Watch
Did the vet give her an injection of antibiotics only or a wormer as well???? I was just thinking internal parasites could be ruled out by worming. You could try Flubenvet which you can get online yourself. Or my vet last week gave Stella an injection of Invomec (not licenced for poultry - 1 month egg withdrawal) to fight internal parasites, plus she got a shot of antibiotics plus oral antibiotics given daily for nearly 2 weeks now to sort out the rattly chest.
