not sure if should worry(worm maybe)

My Hoppity Girl was the reason for my day after arrival visit to the vet. When checking her legs she got in a flap, and sounded like an obese smoker.

Apart from her shorter leg there were various other old injuries. My Vet was not happy about the wheezing although she sounded fine there,He gave a longer lasting antibiotic and I had clear instructions if anyone else started as he said it MAY be something just hiding and showing occasional symptoms.

She is bright eyed, eats drinks sunbakes dust bathes no sneezing, no mucky eyes no snotty nose. BUT she does still sound like me after running up 3 flights

She does lay down lots with Cutie, & I put this down to 2 things. Cutie is her friend and cries for her, & I figured it was tiring getting about for her.

Well now I know them all better & have had time to watch & listen more, I rather think she wheezes more whist laying down. and it looked to start with as if she was straining to lay, her fluffy bottom "breathes"

She looks plumper than the others but not esp heavy. her crop is quite pendulous and softer rather than solid hard lump. I have checked crops in the morning a couple of times and all seems empty.

Spoke to the vet as am thinking that perhaps one or more air sacs have been damaged at some point.

So any thoughts. Is there something else that could make her breath heavily, don't want to wish I had asked the question and didn't. My vet is brill but not an Avian expert, had lots exp. though. :!:

Oh and not forgetting she was a Feb release & was kept back till now. :!:

Combs not as red as I would like, but can't remember how long my originals took to brighten up :?

Hmmmm it does sound rather complex doesnt it?

Has the vet mentioned anything about her kidneys? If they are inflamed ive been told that they can cause heavier breathing by my vet - maybe something to check out? :?

It maybe that she is still struggling to get back to form as she has only been out for a couple of months? :?

Keep a close eye on her and see how she goes, also try and find an avian specialist in your area who may be able to offer a second opinion.

Hi Sandy

Symptoms sound similar to my little Flo. The day we got her (Feb 28th) her breathing was not right, but as time progressed, she became rattly so I took her to the vets. By then it was quite clear she had a chest infection which the vet thinks spread to her lungs. There were absolutely no other symptoms (runny nose, watery eyes) though she did sneeze very ocassionally.

Flo is going to continue with her antibiotics for another 10 days as she is still not right

Hope you get to the bottom of things for your little chook

Regards

Liz
